Brain Science Primer: new online course

Since I retired and moved back to the United States in 2025 I have become involved in my local Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). This month I will be teaching a course called "Brain Science Primer," partially based on the Brain Science podcast. I am excited about teaching a live class, but it will also be available on-line.

There will be five 90 minute sessions:

  • Memory

  • Emotion

  • Embodied Cognition

  • The role of Unconscious processes

  • Consciousness and Free Will

Each class will include ample time for Q&A.

"Brain Science Primer" will be taught live on Mondays starting October 19, but all lectures will be posted in Google Classroom. If you sign up for the Virtual/Online course you can watch live or view the lectures on your own schedule.  All students are encouraged to submit questions for discussion and Online Students are invited to participate in the live Q&A.

The cost of the course is $50 USD for current OLLI members. OLLI at UAH costs $40 USD for one year. This includes free Bonus lectures, including my Bonus lecture “Brain Science” on November 20. This bonus lecture will be available online both live and for delayed viewing.
